the 23rd. April to have them removed. On the 16th. May they were removed. At No. 9 I found rat runs on the ground floor also on the lst. floor on the stair landing. I applied for and served notices on Au Yeung Chiu to fill up the rat runs. This was complied with on the 21st. May. I have not visited the house since. I did

not notice that the premises were in a dangerous condition. I did not see any cracks in the party wall. I went to inspect the rat runs. There were no cracks on the 19th. April or else I should have noticed them. There may have been cracks on the 21st. May. These rat runs were not dangerous. I did not notice that the party wall leaned towards No. 7 at any of my visits.

Examined by jury.

None of the tenant pointed out to me cracks.

Chan Yui Hon declared and examined. I am Assistant Compradore to Shewan Tomes. I know 7 and 9 Upper Station Street. They were let to Au Yeung Sik. He did not mention the word "dangerous", but said there were cracks in the walį Au Yeung Sik said that there was a crack in the wall and if not repaird it might come down. That letter was in Chinese. I read the letter. I unde a translation of the letter. I handed the letter with the translation to Mr. Young. He said it was alright and that he would have the place repaird. I had nothing; further to do with the matter. I did not know the Wing Hop firm. This was the letter (marked 6) I received from the tenant. This is the letter I handed to iir. Young.

No question by Jury.

Henry Herbert Taylor sworn and examined.

I am in charge of the

China Provident Company. On the 22nd. May in the morning I received Exhibit 6 from lar. Young. I received no other instructions. I was told to deal with it. I sent for my contractor Wing Hop and
